Do you trust the BBC?
The Beeb claims that:

"We are independent of outside interests and arrangements that could undermine our editorial integrity. Our audiences should be confident that our decisions are not influenced by outside interests, political or commercial pressures, or any personal interests."

Are they right to make that claim?

Oh dear Comma. I can't be arsed to argue with an idiotic waste of space like you so I'll let your insults pass and get you back later when I can be arsed...

Willbrag, if I am guilty of stating the bleeding obvious then by the same token you are guilty of stating the bleeding ignorant.

I suggest that you go back to your task of guessing a poster’s wife’s ethnicity by ascertaining which country the firm she works for comes from.

Comma.
Why do you always sit on the fence, state the bleeding obvious and rarely come to a conclusion? Oh yes didn't you say you were a Liberal....?

Re: Do you trust the BBC?
The mission of our BBC is to be neutral and present the facts. The problem with trying continuously be neutral is that you end up being seen as left of the right wingers and right of the left wingers.

In order to carry out another part its mission which is to inform the BBC will meticulously question politicians, especially those in power at the time, in order to satisfy the electorate’s need to know. Thus it is that the political party in power at any time, from Wison’s Labour to May’s conservatives invariably feels the BBC is somewhat biased against it. And it follows that as over time we have had more Tory than labour governments the Tories feel that the BBC is institutionally against it rather than being neutral.

Yes.

Like any big organisation they are prone to mistakes.

They probably have a slight liberal/left bias.

Their need for 'balance' sometimes means they give platforms to idiocy.

But, to be honest, one of my 'idiot' flags on social media is anyone who bangs on about 'the MSM' and says they don't watch 'the BBC' anymore.

What they doing? getting their 'news' from unregulated propoganda crap luike The Canary or Brietbart?

you can tell how far left the BBC are by the number of times they throw around the phrase "far right".
an anti-immigration party is labelled far right.

"As for the tax take going down when the rich have their tax raised, the simple reason for that is that nothing effective has ever been done before to tackle the tax havens. Labour have detailed plans to do exactly that. I don't envy them that task - the rich have some clever bastards working for them, but I think they can make a decent go of it."

It's difficult to discuss this sort of thing with people who see "the rich" as the eternal enemy who need taking down.

I don't think closing some loopholes and forcing the archetypal billionaire business owner to surrender nearly half their income to the state is gonna somehow magically cure the NHS or improve all our lives. It'll just mean they leave the country and likely take all their investments/businesses with them, along with all the jobs they provide.

I think Corbyn wouldn’t be unhappy with the reference to Marx. He’s a Marxist and would be pleased with the association. Like you though, I agree that Marxism is poisonous but respect his decision to be a Marxist.

You know that spending on Education and Health has risen every year since 2010 don’t you? That’s an objective fact regardless of what Headteacher or nurse I speak to. I get that it hasn’t risen by as much as you want it to and that’s fair enough, but to label a rise as ‘austerity’ is clearly a misuse of language for the purposes of propaganda. Given it’s a thread about the BBC though, at least it remains on topic.

'It's a completely invalid equation when you fail to factor in inflation and the rising cost of simply standing still'

Inflation is factored in and the second part of the sentence makes literally no sense whatsoever.

Fantastic post. Another sucker who believes the Tory lie that increased spending = no austerity. It's a completely invalid equation when you fail to factor in inflation and the rising cost of simply standing still. Quite apart from that, just talk to any headteacher, chief constable or just about anyone working for the NHS.

As for the tax take going down when the rich have their tax raised, the simple reason for that is that nothing effective has ever been done before to tackle the tax havens. Then we get a reference to Marxism and even better, a mention of Venezuela. Dear oh dear, how easy it is to poison some people's simple minds against Corbyn. The British Labour Party's version of democratic socialism is about as similar to Venezuela's regime as a silk purse is to a sow's ear, but you just make sure you keep reading your Daily Express.

In France they changed the tax rate to 75%. In the UK to 50%. Neither worked.

It's a fact that the rich are paying more in tax under the evil baby killing tories than under nice cuddly labour.
